In the early hours of Friday, in Abu Dhabi, the eminent fighters, Makhachev and Volkanovski, successfully met the weight requirements for UFC 294’s highly anticipated official weigh-ins. Makhachev, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, registered precisely 155 pounds on the scale. His counterpart, UFC featherweight champion Volkanovski, weighed in at a slightly lighter 154.5 pounds, marking his second endeavor toward claiming the coveted champ-champ status.

Volkanovski’s inclusion in the main event of UFC 294 occurred on relatively short notice, as he stepped in for Charles Oliveira, who had been sidelined due to a severe cut above his right eye.

Makhachev previously clashed with Volkanovski in a memorable showdown last February, emerging victorious through a unanimous decision. This contest is recognized as an instant classic and marked Makhachev’s maiden title defense in the UFC lightweight division. Remarkably, both Makhachev and Volkanovski registered the same weight on the scale for their initial bout, mirroring their current weigh-in.

Another UFC lightweight contender, Mateusz Gamrot, also adhered to the 155-pound limit, serving as the backup fighter for the highly anticipated lightweight championship main event.

UFC 294 is slated to unfold at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, October 21.

In the co-main event, the former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, impressively weighed in at 184.5 pounds, setting the stage for his unexpected transition to the middleweight division, where he will square off against Khamzat Chimaev (185.5).

Nevertheless, there were setbacks on the preliminary card, as two fighters failed to meet the stipulated weight requirements. Mike Breeden exceeded the limit by 3.5 pounds in his lightweight bout against Anshul Jubli (155.5), while Viktoriya Dudakova tipped the scales at 116.6 pounds, surpassing the strawweight limit, in her contest against Jinh Yu Frey (116).
